Information for Vegetarian Traveller
The vegetarian diet is a world
trend, a modern new wave. There are more and more people who go on a vegetarian
diet for different reasons. Some are for religious reason; some are for health,
for the environment and for respecting the live beings. Therefore, people
change their eating habits and go on a vegetarian diet. While providing the
best room service and eating service in the world, the hospitality business
provider should also care for and respect the needs for a vegetarian diet.
As vegetarianism becomes more and more popular in everyday life, consumers are offered an increasing number of choices when it comes to a vegetarian diet. In order to meet the customer’s demand and the standard of the service, the hospitability business should provide a detailed menu and indications of the dietary contents.
1. Vegan/Strict vegetarian (non-allium):
This vegetarian meal does NOT contain: any type of animal, seafood, eggs, milk products and by-products, NO allium spices such as onion, garlic, scallion, shallot, and leek as well as chives and other spices. This is also known as Buddhist Vegetarian.
Religious people and meditators are also on a non-allium diet.
2. Ovo vegetarian meal:
As vegetarianism becomes more and more popular in everyday life, consumers are offered an increasing number of choices when it comes to a vegetarian diet. In order to meet the customer’s demand and the standard of the service, the hospitability business should provide a detailed menu and indications of the dietary contents.

This is a Vegetarian Meal that may also contain eggs and dairy products.
It does NOT contain any type of fish or meat.
5. Pure Vegetarian/strict vegetarian (allium-flavoured):
This vegetarian meal contains all type of vegetables including allium-flavoured vegetables such as onion, garlic, scallion, shallot, and leek as well as chives and other spices. It may also contain eggs and dairy products. It does NOT contain: any type of animal meat and seafood.
3. Lacto vegetarian meal:
This vegetarian meal contains all type of vegetables and milk. It does NOT contain eggs or egg products.
4. Lacto Ovo vegetarian meal:
This is a Vegetarian Meal that may also contain eggs and dairy products.
It does NOT contain any type of fish or meat.
5. Pure Vegetarian/strict vegetarian (allium-flavoured):
This vegetarian meal contains all type of vegetables including allium-flavoured vegetables such as onion, garlic, scallion, shallot, and leek as well as chives and other spices. It may also contain eggs and dairy products. It does NOT contain: any type of animal meat and seafood.
To be respectful to the vegetarian and the safety
of the food, the vegetarian should have the same parallel service as the
non-vegetarian. NOT a subsidiary service or other special meal.
1. when handling the pot, cutting board, knife, plates, please use separate ones from those used with meat to avoid cross-contamination.
2. Please specify whether the dishes contain eggs, milk or not. This is to avoid frequent inquiries.
3. Please specify “vegetarian section” with a notice board for customer’s convenience in a buffet area.
